As per the report from Variety, Nicholas Hoult revealed that he also auditioned for Batman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2022. Nicholas said that he was driving on the streets of Los Angeles when he heard on the radio that Robert Pattinson was the top choice for the role of The Dark Knight in The Batman. He said that hearing this news hit me as a shock, given his audition was due next weekend from the time he heard the news of Robert being the top choice. Ultimately the role went to Robert Pattinson.
“I remember a week before we did the Batman test, I was driving in my car, and I had the radio on, and they were talking on the radio about how Rob was going to be the new Batman,” Hoult said. “And I was like, ‘It’s not confirmed yet! I’m auditioning next weekend. Give me a chance.”
He said that losing the role of the Caped Crusader to Robert Pattinson was such an emotional blow. He then went on praising Robert Pattinson, saying Rob was great in the movie. I knew I was against Rob; choosing him was the right decision, but you always expect. He further went on to praise Matt Reeves as the director.
“Yeah of course it’s an emotional blow,” Hoult said about losing out on Batman. “Your imagination does not know…you are aware on a practical level: ‘I know I am auditioning against Rob.’ And Rob is fantastic in that movie. That was the right decision. But you get excited by the prospect. Matt is a fantastic director and the script. It’s a cool movie and I want to be a part of it. It’s a brilliant character. There’s a weird period before you can get to the acceptance and see the movie and be like that was the right choice; you go through the period of ‘What could I have done differently? Why not me?’ You run through all those things.”
Nicholas Hoult was also considered for the role of Superman in James Gunn’s Superman alongside David Corenswet — And auditioned for the role — but David Corenswet ended up landing the role of Man Of Steel.
