The true beginning of the DCU will be James Gunn’s Superman. Still, the first-ever project within the DCU is Creature Commandos, an animated series about a black ops team formulated out of prisoners, which lays the foundation for the Suicide Squad. All seven episodes were written by James Gunn(who is set to direct Superman 2025), who serves as showrunner, while Yves “Balak” Bigerel serves as supervising director. When Creature Commandos was announced, one of the most prominent casting of the series was Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus and this will be not his first role in a superhero project.
Tudyk has played several roles in DC Universe and a cameo appearance in a Marvel project. He has appeared in animated DC TV shows (Harley Quinn, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Young Justice), animated DC movies (Justice League: War), and live-action DC shows (Doom Patrol). Not only that he even made a cameo appearance in Deadpool 2 as Luke – Redneck #1.
James Gunn revealed in his announcement video that the actors who voice the characters in the animated project will be played by the same actors from animation to live-action and vice versa.
“We’re gonna have characters move into animation, out of animation, usually having the same actor play their voice as who plays them in live-action.”
Recently Deadline reported that Alan Tudyk has been cast in ‘Superman’ in an undisclosed role, which led some fans to believe that Dr phosphorus will be making his live-action debut in Superman, here are our speculations on who he might be playing:
1. Brainiac
Though there are no confirmations of Brainiac appearing in Superman, the very first official look at David Corenswet’s Superman reveals that a green beam is hitting the circular object shooting the pink light beam on the background from behind. Is Guy Gardner firing at Brainiac’s spacecraft? Maybe, but let’s be honest Alan Tudyk as Braniac would go so hard considering his talented voice skills and acting.
2. Mister Mxyzptlk
We’ve seen the potential this guy carries in Doom Patrol where he played Mr. Nobody so perfectly that even some fans called Doom Patrol, the best live-action DC series of all time, and the huge credit goes to his performance. The type of character Mxy is in the comics Alan Tudyk would be perfect for that role.
3 Martian Manhunter
A potential CG-heavy role for a talented voice actor as unlikely as it seems, might be the possibility of Tudyk playing J’onn J’onzz.

“between you and me – I am playing Jimmy Olson’s French photographer friend, Bertrand ‘Bertie’ Muegler, who specializes in adult avant-garde snaps. Wears a cape, but isn’t a superhero, just a fashion slut”
Whether it’s a superhero, a villain, or maybe some random guy that he’s playing we’re just glad to have him in ‘Superman’.
