Months ago, there was a rumor circulating across the world that Dwayne Johnson, yes, you heard it right! Dwayne The Rock Johnson is reportedly Marvel Studios’ top choice to play The Apocalypse in upcoming X-Men movies.
Who is The Apocalypse?
The Apocalypse in the X-Men universe is one of the most powerful ancient mutants, he is the first-born mutant, born thousands of years ago in Egypt, and his original name is En Sabah Nur. His ideology is ‘Survival Of The Fittest,’ he believes that the powerful deserve to survive and the weak deserve to be eliminated.
This belief of his forces him to destroy and ruin everything to bring evolution to the world, and make the world only for potents. He sees himself as a God, destined to rule and dominate; this is why he and X-Men (who believe that Humans and Mutants can coexist peacefully)end up coming face to face in the arena.
We have already seen Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), the story of which is, having been inactive for thousands of years, Apocalypse (played by Oscar Isaac) gets disenchanted with the state of the world after his awakening from a long sleep, and decides to remake and rebuild it by eliminating the impotent and Sparing the potent.
To do so, he recruits some mighty mutants among the X-Men team by manipulating them, —Magneto, Storm, Psylocke, and Angel—who help him destroy civilization and make a new world order where only the strongest will be the survivor.
To stop him Professor Charles Xavier, leader of the X-Men, unites with other mutants and prevents this catastrophic event from happening. In this venture, some new faces–Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, and Cyclops–join him alongside the old ones–Beast, Mystique, and Quicksilver to counter this global hazard.
Is Dwayne Johnson going to play The Apocalypse?
It is just rumored that Dwayne Johnson is going to play Apocalypse in the upcoming X-Men movie that will likely take place in Marvel Studios’ Phase 7, as none of the reliable sources claimed it, it is unlikely that Dwayne Johnson will play the character.
If The Rock plays Apocalypse in the MCU, it is going to be one of the most controversial castings in Hollywood, as some people love him for his Charismatic Personality, which there isn’t any doubt he has. Some believe that his movies rely more on him than on quality and storytelling.
