Superman

James Gunn announced the first DCU chapter named ‘Gods & Monsters’ back in 2023 and revealed some projects in the slate they — James & Peter Safran — confirmed. The most anticipated among was Superman: Legacy, later changed to Superman. People were getting a standalone Superman project in more than a decade, so the excitement was obvious.
In July 2024, we got tons of updates regarding the movie; the set images, and the Superman suit, which was relatively quite bright given the previous versions. People were quite happy as Superman getting his trunks back on, which was missed in Zack Snyder’s version of Henry Cavill.

James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ trailer was released on December 19 and created an overwhelming buzz on the internet. The film’s trailer received high praise from fans. People were also quite emotional seeing the trailer and James’ work and dedication to the film, the way he is taking the film along. The trailer has had over 250M views in 24 hours breaking the record of Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and holding 5th place among most watched trailers in 24 hours, below ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

David Corenswet convinced James Gunn to keep Superman’s Red Trunks

Superman

Trunks has always been a significant part of Superman suit which was showcased in almost every movie except Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel and some of Tyler Hoechlin’s in Superman & Lois. James Gunn sat with Gizmodo back in July — When filming for Superman had just started — but these statements were revealed later on when the Superman trailer was released. Gunn revealed that he was also in favor of not including iconic trunks, but David Corenswet made him change his mind, expressing his feelings that were well-aligned with James’ vision for Superman. David said that Superman should be the one people are not afraid of and should look like a wrestler.

“We were trying on all these different versions, and we screen-tested with trunks and no trunks, Gunn explained to Gizmodo. “And one of the things David said is that Superman wants kids to not be afraid of him. He’s an alien. He’s got these incredible powers. He shoots beams out of his eyes… He’s this incredibly powerful and could be considered a scary individual, and he wants people to like him. He wants to be a symbol of hope and positivity. So he dresses like a professional wrestler.”

James Gunn just made a revelation suggesting that he even talked to Zack Snyder and conversed with him about Superman trunks, In which response he emphasized that it never worked out for him a billion times.

“I even talked to Zack Snyder about it. He said, ‘I tried like a billion versions with the trunks and just never got there.’ And I said, ‘I see how that’s the case.”

People loved the Superman trailer, especially David Corenswet, who looked phenomenal, as he was casting a bunch of emotions in the trailer. James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ flies into theaters on July 11, 2025, ushering in a new era for the DCU.”
