Former Superman Actor Henry Cavill Supported the Controversial Black Superman Project

After seeing the grand success of Disney’s MCU, Warner Bros. which holds the rights of DC Comics decided to create their own shared universe which they named DCEU (DC Extended Universe). They started this universe in 2013 with Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill and ended in 2023 with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom starring Jason Momoa. Still, despite its potential, star power, and several good movies, their universe failed miserably.

In the meantime, James Gunn and Peter Safran were hired after working on several DCEU projects to develop the new cinematic universe. In the process, Gunn canceled several development projects, and one of the movies that were actively in development before hiring them was J.J. Abrams’s Black Superman Film. The movie aimed to introduce Calvin Ellis as Superman, whose Kryptonian name is Kalel, the President of the United States of America, and Michael B. Jordan was set to play Superman.

Is the Black Superman movie happening?

Everyone believed that the Black Superman movie had also been scrapped with the rest of them but a few weeks ago Gunn told on his threads account that J.J Abrams’ Superman movie is still in development.

When a DC fan asked, Is that Abrams Superman Elseworld project still in development?”
“Yes” – Gunn Replied

Although the movie is in development, we’re not sure that Michael B. Jordan will be the one to play Calvin Ellis aka Superman.

Henry Cavill Supporting the Black Superman Film

Additionally, we discovered an old interview from a trustworthy source whereby the former Superman actor expressed his endorsement of a Black Superman film.

It’s exciting — Superman’s far more than skin color. Superman is an ideal. Superman is an extraordinary thing that lives within our hearts. Why not have multiple Supermen going on?

Joaquin Phoenix did a wonderful Joker movie, so what if it’s not tied to the rest of [the franchise]? They have multiple Superman comic book storylines happening at the same time.

Henry Cavill noted the popularity of Todd Philips’ Joker film, as well as the possibility of having numerous superheroes at once.
