It’s been a bunch of days since James Gunn revealed something related to the decade’s most-awaited film, Superman. The last time we saw something relatable to Superman was in Cleaveland Downtown when James and the crew were out filming the movie in July.
Now, when fans were eagerly awaiting that just relates to Superman, James dropped something on his Twitter (now known as X) handle, and it’s something that fans were not expecting actually. James posted three images: The first one is the center of attention, which is Superman sitting next to Krypto The Dog, which makes it clear that we are going to see Krypto in the movie.
Krypto arrives on screens in Superman this summer. Krypto was inspired by our dog Ozu, who we adopted shortly after I started writing Superman. Ozu, who came from a hoarding situation in a backyard with 60 other dogs & never knew human beings, was problematic, to say the least. He immediately came in & destroyed our home, our shoes, our furniture – he even ate my laptop. It took a long time before he would even let us touch him. I remember thinking, “Gosh, how difficult would life be if Ozu had superpowers?” – and thus Krypto came into the script & changed the shape of the story as Ozu was changing my life. What better time to debut the not-so-good-good-boy Krypto than #AdoptAShelterDog month. Btw, Ozu today, is, fairly often, a very good boy.
James said in this post that Krypto is inspired by his dog Ozu, who was adopted by James after he started writing Superman.
Who is Krypto?

Krypto is also known as Krypto The Superdog, is actually a Kryptonian dog sent to Earth by Jor-El, Superman’s father as part of a test, but ends up with Superman and becomes his Companion. He shares the similar powers as Superman; he can fly, has super strength, and laser vision, just similar to Superman.
We have seen him in comic books and a lot of adaptations; Tv shows, animated series, and lastly, 2022 DC Studios’ animated film DC League of Super-Pets that got a lot of praise from critics and fans alike
This time we are going to see him in live-action as a loyal companion to Superman, when Superman flies into theatres on July 11, 2025.
