Tom Brittney Reflects on How He Shattered Henry Cavill’s Superman Suit into Pieces

It is no wonder that moving on from Henry Cavill’s Superman is one of the hardest things in the rebooted DCU. The aura and the performance Henry brings to the table are unmatchable, since every role he plays, he just breathes life into that character. Henry Cavill was cast as Man Of Steel back in January 2011 with Zack Snyder was set to direct the film. However, the film received mixed reviews from critics, but overall, the movie got a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes from audiences. However, Zack Snyder’s vision was, his storytelling in DCEU, but one thing for sure he did well was casting and costumes for superheroes, among which was the costume of Superman Henry Cavill put on in Man Of Steel.

When James Gunn rebooted the DC universe, Tom Brittney was among the actors who auditioned for the role of Man Of Steel in James Gunn’s Superman alongside David Corenswet. Tom reflected during a podcast that when they auditioned, they got to put Henry Cavill’s suit on, it was such a wild goose chase I had to do, he clarified, and during which process he kind of mistakenly tore that suit apart.

“It was actually Henry Cavill’s Superman suit – it was his actual suit. It takes about half an hour to get into it – to get sewn into it. And yeah, I think I might have accidentally ripped it. I was more muscular than Henry Cavill, that’s the only reason.” he jestingly said.

DC Studios’ Co-Ceo James Gunn also commented on this matter saying Tom really tore that suit then David came and he is much more muscular than both of them so they shattered that suit into pieces.

“Yes. Tom messed it up and then Corenswet came in an he was way too tall so it just got torn to shreds. BTW, Tom is truly one of my favorite actors. Incredibly talented guy.”
